Algorithmic Diva Bolero – Shorty

ABOUT THIS PATTERN

Pattern available in English and Dutch.

Algorithmic Diva Bolero – Shorty combines a number of different techniques: from knit and purl textures, to intarsia (no bobbins required!), to simple lacework. This makes for a fun and challenging project for intermediate knitters that knits up quicker than expected. It is worked flat, sideways from one arm to the other, then stitched together along the ends to create the arms. This version of the bolero is one size fits most with completely loose fit at the bust, and hits around the hips.

The design is part of my first collaboration with Berlin-based indie dyer Boredom Kills Design

This pattern is available on Ravelry for 10.00

MATERIALS AND TOOLS
Recommended Yarn

The Algorithmic Diva Bolero uses a combination of 3 different yarns: 2-ply DK yarn, lace yarn and DK boucle yarn for a truly unique, funky, and fashion forward look.

  • Color 1:  BKD Merino DK or other sportweight or DK yarn that obtains gauge
  • Color 2: BKD Merino Boucle or other sportweight or DK boucle yarn that obtains gauge
  • Color 3: BKD Kid Silk Lace or other laceweight yarn

Sample was knit with BKD Yarn kit – color combination Waterlilies on 4mm needles.

Needles

4.0mm / US 6 / UK 8 80cm/32″ circular needles (or size to obtain gauge)

Gauge (per 10cm / 4″ after blocking)

21 stitches x 28 rows in stockinette for Colors 1& 2, in lace pattern for Color 3

Gauge is not extremely critical, but DK or sport weight yarn is recommended for Colors 1 and 2 to obtain appropriate dimensions. For Colors 2 (in stockinette) and 3 (in lace pattern) it is important that the gauge is equal to, or lower than, the gauge for color 1 (i.e. 21 stitches or less and 28 rows or less per 10x10cm), using the same needles, for shaping purposes.
